Below are some of our patients' comments, along with staff comments about working at Markstein Cancer Services.
What Our Patients Say
- "Markstein Cancer Education and Prevention Services is a golden resource for people whose lives have been touched by cancer. In addition to a caring, supportive staff, they have an excellent library, support groups and access to breaking news about state-of-the-art treatment. Leslie and staff have helped me on countless occasions get the information and support I needed at a stressful time in my life." -- Marcie
- "The 'Man to Man' prostate cancer support group at Markstein has been extremely helpful in my recovery. It's staffed by kind and knowledgeable people who provide continuous resources including the Bay Area's best cancer experts. It's also an opportunity to share the emotional challenges that we face in diagnosis, treatment and recovery with other men and women." -- Michael Smith, Ph.D.
- "I can’t begin to thank you enough for the information and support you’ve given me during this trying time. Your professionalism and friendship are extraordinary. You have my deepest gratitude." -- H.W.
- "When I received the news that I had a cancer I knew nothing about, first I just clammed up. But then finally I decided to share the diagnosis with a friend. Her sister had had cancer and she suggested I call Markstein. I did call and I did go to visit. Not only did I find information on all aspects of my cancer including treatment options, I also found a comforting haven where I could visit and just chill-out during the days I had breaks in my treatment schedule. The manager was able to meet with me to brainstorm on services I may need and I also found a terrific support group to attend." -- Eric
What Our Staff Members Say
- "Markstein Services, through the 'Every Woman Counts Program,' provides free mammograms for uninsured women over 40. In addition, and if diagnosed with cancer, women are then enrolled in the Breast Cancer Treatment Program which pays for surgery and treatment. This is of particular importance to all women as many hospitals have chosen not to offer this service." -- Marta Borbon Ehling, RN
- "The best thing about Markstein Cancer Services is the anonymity a patient is allowed when they walk in the door. They can peruse the well-stocked shelves of educational material (that is nicely organized and user-friendly) on their own. If they need help finding something, help is always available. I have found the staff to be extremely helpful in locating support groups for all types of cancers in locations convenient to our patients." -- Terry Rodriguez, RN
What Our Community Partners Say
- "The expertise, commitment and passion of the staff of Markstein Services makes working with them as community partners a pleasure. Leslie Paine and the staff are creative and tireless in providing accessible education programs, cancer screenings, and support for the entire community, including those who are often underserved." -- Janice Woodward, Community Services Director, American Cancer Society
