Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) Program

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is very proud to acknowledge our Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program, the first such program in Northern California. Modeled after programs typically found only in university settings, our program supports and encourages close partnerships between patients and the transplanting physician who guides treatment from consultation through the post-transplant follow-up period.

The BMT program, accredited by the Foundation for the Accrditation of Cellular Therapy, participates in international transplant registries and in the National Marrow Donor Program. Donors from all over the western United States come to Alta Bates Summit Medical Center to donate stem cells to recipients with life-threatening illnesses who need a transplant but do not have a matched donor on the family. For more information about becoming a donor to help foster clinical research, please call (510) 204-7826. This ongoing program uses paid donors of both white blood cells and bone marrow for laboratory research only. NO human studies are done in this program.

The BMT program has an inpatient unit at Alta Bates Campus (Alta Bates Campus Map) and a cryopreservation laboratory and pheresis unit at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Herrick Campus (Herrick Campus Map).
